ArcheAge player infiltrates casino, finds housing blueprint

ArcheAge player infiltrates casino, finds housing blueprint:
ArcheAge casino balcony
Ready for some ArcheAge-style gambling? No, it's not lockboxes, but in-game casino gambling looks to be implemented on the game's Korean servers. An article on 2p.com has the details, which are somewhat premature since the author had to sneak into the closed facility via some crafty climbing and judicious use of glider wings.

Inside he found a "spacious hall with lavish decoration" as well as slot machines and three types of exchange trophies, one of which was "obviously [a] blueprint of [a] house." If you're playing the Korean version of ArcheAge, you can check it out for yourself by following 2p.com's map which marks the location on the game's Fantasy Island.

[Thanks Dengar!]

Rise and Shiny: Game of Thrones Ascent

Game of Thrones Ascent screenshot
There are several things that Game of Thrones Ascent, a social game by Disruptor Beam, does right. At the top of that list is the way the game works as a vehicle for easily digestible content, content that comes from some of the densest reading material in modern fantasy. For the record, I still haven't read any of the books that the Game of Thrones television series is based on, but luckily I have a wife who will simply burst with excitement when she reads some new tidbit... unless she tells the nearest person (me).

It must be hard making a game based on such a popular piece of fiction. The fact is that I didn't expect the little-known developers to do much good. I thought players would be smashing through a game that served as nothing but a cheap commercial for the HBO series. I was very wrong.

Infinity Ward developing for Valve-backed Piston PC?

Infinity Ward developing for Valve-backed Piston PC?:
Call of Duty developer posts image of specially branded tech, suggesting studio is working with the grapefruit-sized PC.

Call of Duty studio Infinity Ward may be developing for the Valve-backed Piston mini-PC from Xi3.

The developer has posted an image of what appears to be an Infinity Ward-branded Piston to its Facebook page along with a caption that simply reads "game development."

Infinity Ward posted a similar image to its Twitter account, writing "What's this?"

An Activision representative was not immediately available to comment.

Xi3 announced the modular, grapefruit-sized computer designed around Steam's TV-focused Big Picture mode during the Consumer Electronics Show in January. Valve itself at the time announced that it had invested an undisclosed amount in Xi3.

As for the Activision-owned Infinity Ward, the developer recently moved into a new office space and has no announced projects. Last month, Activision revealed that a new Call of Duty game will release in 2013. Executives do not expect this game be as commercially successful as immediate predecessor Black Ops II.

    Jerry Bruckheimer Games closed

    Jerry Bruckheimer Games closed:
Pirates of the Caribbean producer's game incubation studio no longer moving forward after shipping no products since 2007.

Film and TV icon Jerry Bruckheimer's first foray into gaming yielded no products. A Bruckheimer Films representative confirmed with GameSpot today that Jerry Bruckheimer Games, founded in 2007, is no longer moving forward.

"Jerry Bruckheimer Games is no longer active," the representative said.

Asked if "no longer active" should be thought of as dormant with the possibility of returning to operation or simply no longer a functioning entity, the rep was clear: "no longer a functioning entity."

The outfit--once in partnership with MTV Games--was described as a "game incubation studio," one that would conceive games but wouldn't actually develop them. "It'll be an idea [house]," Bruckheimer told GameSpot in 2007. "We'll work with other developers and studios to hire an executive team and come up with something we feel is interesting."

The company's website--www.jbgames.com--now redirects to Bruckheimer's film website.

Jerry Bruckheimer Games had no announced projects, though the company was reportedly developing three different games for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. A Bruckheimer Films representative declined to comment on the status of these rumored projects.

Highly touted Jerry Bruckheimer Games founding presidents Jim Veevaert and Jay Cohen have moved on. Veevaert is now a general manager at Zynga, while Jay Cohen left the company last year and is currently chairman of the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences.

No comment was given regarding the nature of the pair's departure from the now-defunct game company.

Though Bruckheimer may no longer have a hand in gaming, he is set to produce a number of high-profile upcoming films, including National Treasure 3 and Pirates of the Caribbean 5, among others.

Bruckheimer's film and TV legacy is extensive. In addition to producing the Pirates of the Caribbean films, he has helped create films like Top Gun and Black Hawk Down and shows like C.S.I: Crime Scene Investigation and The Amazing Race

I'm sure somebody thinks that's neat.
If you're one of those people who absolutely cannot wait to get their hands on The Elder Scrolls Online, you won't have to wait too much longer, as the game's first beta testing will apparently start toward the end of this month. The testing will consist of small and focused test weekends, but it's better than the current test schedule of "nothing."

Need something a bit more immediate? Kartuga has gone into closed beta, and Dragon Nest is in closed testing in Europe, but that closed portion means you can't necessarily jump right in. So you might just have to wait to try some games until PAX East, such as the anticipated Neverwinter. It'll be there with bells and large weapons on.

More beta information is in the list just past the cut. If you noticed something we missed, let us know in the comments.

That robot looks great now, but the first time it gets a scuff mark it's going to just be ruined.
Pyramids aren't just for ancient pharaohs or Mayans. In Allods Online, a pyramid is the site of one of the game's newest dungeons coming out with the upcoming Lords of Destiny expansion. Of course, this pyramid is also covered in magical runes and filled with the sort of enemies that require a strong level 55 raid to defeat, but isn't that always the way? Pyramids never wind up being summer bungalows for retirees.

All joking aside, the Pyramid is a construction of the ancient Tep, a necromancer who studied the essence of life itself and tried to capture it inside of his stronghold. His work led to the origin of the Arisen, but he still waits within his stronghold as a vengeful shade intent on harvesting more life. Allods Online players can find more information on the dungeon layout and bosses in the full rundown on the official site.
