IDC: connected device shipments up 29.1 percent in 2012, smartphones and tablets rule
IDC: connected device shipments up 29.1 percent in 2012, smartphones and tablets rule:
Researchers at IDC have had their ears to the ground keeping tabs on shipments for specific types of devices, and now they've painted a bigger picture of the hardware battlefield in 2012. "Smart connected devices" -- a category which includes desktops, laptops, tablets and smartphones -- saw a total of 367.7 million units shipped in Q4 2012, up 28.3 percent from the year before. In total, over 1.2 billion units were shipped last year, marking a 29.1 percent upswing from 2011. Naturally, tablets and smartphones drove the boost by carving out roughly 60 percent of the year's combined marketshare, while PCs and notebook shipments sank by 4.1 and 3.4 percent, respectively.

Mr. Runner 2: The Masks Preview:
Mr. Runner 2: The Masks is an upcoming action game from the newly launched development studio Zing Games. It’s loosely based on the first Mr. Runner mobilegame, but the graphical improvements between the two are so drastic that the difference could roughly be compared to the monumental change between Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario World.

Kingsbridge Preview
Kingsbridge Preview:
Have you ever had a sad moment when you drank a little too much whiskey and then decided to plumb the darkest corners of Craigslist? Maybe you saw some sketchy giveaways offering a free mattress to anyone who wanted to fumigate its bedbug colony first. Kingsbridge similarly offers the player a fixer-upper, but there are no soiled mattresses and parasites (thankfully). Instead, you need to clear some bandits out of your town and then work on building up that town into something to be proud of.

Pocket Village Preview
Pocket Village Preview:
There are hundreds of religions and cultures on Earth, and most of them are at odds with one another about the true nature of the higher powers and/or laws that govern us (if any). There’s one thing we can probably all agree on, though: It’s not often that orders come directly from up on high, and as a result our species kind of stumbles around aimlessly. It would be nice if a heavenly voice commanded, “YOU—chop wood for an hour!” and then freed us up to goof off for the rest of the day. Fortunately, you can be that benevolent, laid-back god in Pocket Village for iOS.

Ecol Tactics Announces Closed Beta Date:
Ecol Tactics is an upcoming free-to-play tactical browser MMORPG with turn-based combat reminiscent of titles such as Final Fantasy Tactics. After a recent play session with the game, we can comfortably say this isn’t just another cheap browser game – it’s a lot of fun.
Publisher GamesCampus announced today that the turn-based strategy game will enter closed beta on March 7th. For those looking to try the game themselves, we will be hosting a closed beta key giveaway next Wednesday – in the meantime, visit the official site.

Kingdom Under Fire Online: Age of Storm CBT1 Review
Kingdom Under Fire Online: Age of Storm CBT1 Review:
The latest Korean AOS game which is currently in its first Closed Beta Test called Kingdom Under Fire Age of Storm. The game is being developed by Dragonfly Entertainment and published by NEOWIZ GAMES. Age of Storm reminded me a lot of Cyphers and Land of Chaos, though my viewers say the game looks a lot like Smite. Come check out some of the first impressions along with full length 1080p gameplay videos from Steparu.com.

Guild Wars 2 frees up tournaments for all
Guild Wars 2 frees up tournaments for all:
Filed under: Fantasy, Game mechanics, Patches, PvP, News items, Guild Wars 2
It's time to stop paying money for the right to prove that you're better than your enemies. Starting with tomorrow's update, Guild Wars 2 is abolishing Paid Tournaments altogether, replacing them with Free Tournaments. Free Tournaments will be available in 1-round and 3-round formats for players, with the winning team in a 1-round tournament receiving a reward chest. Any unused Tournament Tickets can be redeemed for special reward boxes from a Ticket Merchant NPC.
Why the change? Originally the whole split between Paid and Free Tournaments was meant to allow the best players to compete against one another while allowing more casual players fair matches, but with the addition of a full ranking system, the split was no longer needed. Matchmaking and ranking will be separate between the 1-round and 3-round tournament formats, ensuring that anyone can play one format or the other as desired. So take heart and take up arms against your enemies because as of tomorrow, you can do so for free.

Diamond Duel review
Diamond Duel review:
Diamond Duel is a Facebook game from Pixee Games. The title has been available since mid-June of last year, but has seen a sharp upswing in popularity recently, perhaps due in part to its current rotating feature spot in the sidebar of Facebook’s App Center.

Anarchy Online set to finally merge servers
Anarchy Online set to finally merge servers:
Filed under: Sci-fi, Anarchy Online, News items, Free-to-play
How do you get together after 12 years of separation? That's a question the Anarchy Online community is going to have to answer tomorrow as the game undergoes a server merge, bringing together two communities that have been apart for more than a decade. PvP will be chaotic, the state of community relations will be chaotic, cats and dogs will be living next to one another... you get the idea, general mass hysteria.
Both servers will be brought offline at 5:00 a.m. EST on February 26th. The maintenance required to merge the two servers is expected to run for 24 hours, with the usual caveat that it may run longer depending on any issues encountered during the process. Afterwards, players will be able to log in to the new combined server and start welcoming their new neighbors... or start shooting them in their faces for property rights. As we said, general mass hysteria.
