An Exclusive Interview with the Assistant Producer of Scarlet Blade
An Exclusive Interview with the Assistant Producer of Scarlet Blade:
Aeria Games may have a big hit on their hands with their acquisition of Scarlet Blade, which has been getting all sorts of crazy buzz for its action, fast-paced PvP, and 11-volume sex appeal. Scarlet Blade is Aeria's most anticipated MMO for 2013, and if the early commentaries are player reactions are any indication, it deserves to be. I had an opportunity to discuss Scarlet Blade with Aeria Games, to learn a little more about what makes this game so hot -- and as it turns out, there's plenty to be excited about for this game.

Star Wars: The Old Republic opens up test servers for patch 2.0
Star Wars: The Old Republic opens up test servers for patch 2.0:
Filed under: Sci-fi, Expansions, Patches, Endgame, News items, Free-to-play, Star Wars: The Old Republic
We've known for a while that the first digital expansion for Star Wars: The Old Republic will be releasing in the spring. Those waiting eagerly for Rise of the Hutt Cartel won't have too much longer to wait, it seems, as the expansion has been put up for testing on the game's public test server. This build includes gear, operations, and flashpoints for characters at the new level cap of 55, as well as the extra abilities and skills you'd expect from an extra five levels.
Notably not included is all of the content from Makeb that would allow players to actually reach level 55, which necessitates the addition of a special NPC to boost player levels and allow corresponding equipment unlocks. Still, if you're looking to take your main characters for a test drive in the post-expansion world, head over to the public test server and start seeing what changes with five more levels under your belt. And even if you'd rather wait for the release, this round of testing means the expansion can't be too far off.

Infinity update talks 2012 progress, Battlescape Kickstarter
Infinity update talks 2012 progress, Battlescape Kickstarter:
Filed under: Sci-fi, Game mechanics, MMO industry, New titles, News items, Sandbox, Crowdfunding
The Infinity website has updated with a lengthy blog post detailing the state of the project. It also fleshes out some details on its upcoming crowdfunding drive. What's Infinity? It's a vast sci-fi sandbox with seamless planetary-to-space transitions and a persistent, procedurally generated universe, among other things.
The indie dev team has been working on the project for a number of years now, and it has managed to release a well-received tech demo and a rather spectacular atmospheric flight test. The lack of news updates throughout most of 2012 was apparently due to a substantial amount of work being done on under-the-hood quality and performance issues.
As for an Infinity Kickstarter, it's coming (but not before mid-2013). The preliminary details include a standalone called Infinity: Battlescape which is basically a successor to Infinity's 2007 combat prototype. The game will focus on multiplayer combat, it will feature the seamless planetary engine, and it will likely take place in a single solar system. While some in the Infinity community have expressed indifference with crowdfunding a game that isn't the full Infinity project, I-Novae Studios says that Battlescape is more like "a first step to the whole MMO that will be marketed independently even though it shares a lot of content and code."
