SupersonicAds aims to make social/mobile game advertising more manageable with Ultra server
SupersonicAds aims to make social/mobile game advertising more manageable with Ultra server:
One of the ongoing issues we hear about from developers is how difficult it is to monetize the free players who don’t convert. While in-game ads are often the default solution, it can be difficult to manage the content provided by ad services, especially if more than one network’s been partnered with. Mobile and web ad monetization group Supersonic Ads Media Group is looking to streamline the experience with its newly-launched Ultra server.
Ther server is a Supply Side Platform (SSP) powered by SupersonicAds. Using Ultra, publishers and developers can use a single ad server for all their social game ad formats. In layman’s terms, that means devs can perform multiple tasks without having to deal with multiple integrations and reporting systems.
“The ad formats in social games are focused on rewards-based advertising,” SupersonicAds CEO Gil Shoham tells us. ”These are basically offers that provide virtual currency and incentivized videos. There isn’t any ad server out there to deal with these formats in terms of optimization, virtual currency, and fraud.
“We’ve discovered that social game developers have some very specific needs and requirements different than other content providers. Every ad network that a publisher would like to integrate includes a technical aspect,” he further notes. According to Shoham, dealing with these multiple software integrations takes time away from game development, something many smaller studios can’t really afford due to limited resources.
Shoham tells us Ultra’s been in development for over a year, though it soft-launched about six months ago. So far, he says approximately 30 developers are currently using Ultra’s toolset to help manage their advertising. While a complete list of these developers hasn’t been released, one high-profile partner already making use of Ultra is King.com. The Candy Crush Saga developer has been working with Supersonic Ads for years, we learn.
Both Ultra and SupersonicAds’ established services are clearly paying off for the company. So far, the company’s been venture-funded, though Shohan reveals it was profitable in 2012. For more information about SupersonicAds and Ultra, check out the company’s official website.

Steal Fighter Announced Taiwan Publisher
Steal Fighter Announced Taiwan Publisher:
Gravity Games has just launched Steal Fighter in Korea a few days ago, but it seems Korea is the first step. Recently, they have announced that Steal Fighter will be heading to Taiwan under publisher Gameflier, which is one of the biggest MMO companies there. In Steal Fighter, there is a PvP MOBA map, but there are also various instanced PvE maps to explore, which are very similar to Dungeon & Fighter.

EA: Consumers 'enjoying and embracing' microtransactions
EA: Consumers 'enjoying and embracing' microtransactions:
CFO Blake Jorgensen says microtransactions will be built into more and more of publisher's games moving forward.
Gamers are "enjoying and embracing" microtransactions, according to Electronic Arts chief financial officer Blake Jorgensen. Speaking today during the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media, and Telecom Conference, the executive said microtransactions will be built into more and more of the publisher's titles moving forward.
"We are building into all of our games the ability to pay for things along the way; to get to a higher level, to buy a new characters; to buy a truck or gun or whatever it might be," Jorgensen said. "And consumers are enjoying and embracing that way of business."
In order for EA's microtransactions platform to flourish, the correct technology must be in place, Jorgensen said. Not only has this been achieved through efforts from chief technology officer Rajat Taneja, but EA has made this business more profitable by bringing it in-house.
"We've got to have a very strong backend to make sure…if you're doing microtransactions, and you're processing credit cards for every one of those microtransactions, you'll get eaten alive. And so Rajat's team has built an amazing backend to manage that and manage that much more profitably. We've outsourced a lot of that stuff historically; we're bringing that all in-house now."
Check back later today for more comments from EA's presentation.

SEGA job listings hint at new Sonic Dash game (iPad):
The dedicated Sonic fans over at Sonic Stadium have stumbled upon an interesting piece of news for the rumor mill today, after coming across a few SEGA job listings on LinkedIn that seem to indicate a new Sonic the Hedgehog mobile game is on the horizon. In a few of these job listings for such positions as Data and Game Analyst and Mobile Game Engineer at SEGA’s UK-based Hardlight studio, the company description lists Sonic Jump and “Sonic Dash” as their past mobile successes. The “Sonic Dash” title has since been taken down by SEGA, but Sonic Stadium managed to capture a screenshot of the original listing. | |

The best thing about Nvidia's TegraZone, where Android and Windows RT device owners can purchase and play the latest Tegra-fueled games, is that it's not very crowded. Darkfall's fourth anniversary arrives, Unholy Wars doesn't:

Several months ago, when the Massively braintrust asked me to pen an anniversary piece for Darkfall, I said, "Sure, that sounds like a great excuse to jump in and see what's changed since I played last."
Little did I know that I'd still be stuck looking at Darkfall: Unholy Wars from afar on the game's anniversary date because Aventurine still hasn't gotten around to launching its sandbox reboot just yet. Huge delays are par for the course with this game, and I suppose the latest pales in comparison to the decade-long development cycle and the interminable Forumfall buffoonery that fans of the game suffered through prior to its original 2009 release.
And yeah, I could link my old account and my new account and go beta Unholy Wars, but 15 years as an MMO fan has cured me of any impulse to test these games, particularly ones that I'm likely to enjoy post-release. Anyhow, that's a pretty long-winded intro that essentially boils down to "join me after the cut for an anniversary recap of Darkfall's past 12 months."

The cutsie DOFUS is sweating big anime sweat drops today as the game and its forums have come under multiple distributed denial of service (DDOS) attacks.
The team reported the first attack this morning on Twitter, saying that the devs were working on beefing up the title's security. However, come this afternoon all hell started to break loose. "We may be under a second DDOS attack, forums and game are inaccessible at the moment," the DOFUS Twitter account said.

Filed under: Sci-fi, Free-to-play, Legal, MMOFPS, PlanetSide 2
You know the drill people: Accounts hacked, time to change those passwords ASAP. Who's affected this time around? It's the runners-and-gunners of PlanetSide 2 in Europe. Email addresses and passwords for some accounts were exposed, and affected players have been notified that they should create a new secret code so that the unwashed hackers don't gain entry to personal accounts elsewhere.
ProSiebenSat.1 issued the warning last night: "We have ascertained that there was recently unauthorized third-party access to one of our systems. The possibility that your data (email address and password) has been accessed by an unauthorized third party cannot be excluded. We were able to detect the problem promptly and took all necessary action to rectify the issue."
The company said that account data are encrypted and issued instructions how to change your password if this impacts you.
No European SOE PlanetSide 2 accounts were affected by the intrusion.
[Thanks to the mighty Tandor for the tip!]
[We've updated the article to clarify that only some PSS1 accounts were affected. SOE's European accounts are in the clear.]

Sega’s Godsrule enters open beta
Sega’s Godsrule enters open beta:
Godsrule: War of Mortals, the “build and battle” game Sega announced earlier this year, is now in open beta.
Godsrule is a mid-core game, combining citybuilding and action RPG genres. Players control the forces of either mystical creatures or bloodthirsty humans in a world that seems heavily inspired by Norse mythology. Like many core strategy titles, users are tasked with erecting and upgrading buildings while establishing an army they can send out on missions.
However, as opposed to many other core games, missions don’t seem to be automated tasks where players simply wait for their minions’ return. Players instead engage in battles on small maps where they have to summon their forces one at a time and directly control the action. As a result, the action is much more hands-on, but one isn’t able to bring in a large horde of characters; maps seem to have various ways of limiting the number of creatures that can be summoned, thereby providing a little extra challenge to the mission.
Since it was announced, Sega and developer Gogogic have maintained the game would launch simultaneously on both the web and iPad, though the game’s web portal doesn’t work on iOS due to Flash Player requirements and a search for the title on the iTunes App Store comes up blank. Strangely, Facebook shows there’s a Godsrule: War of Mortals game with approximately 500 monthly active users, but clicking on the link results in an error page.
As we’ve noted in the past, Godsrule: War of Mortals is an ambitious step for Sega. The company doesn’t have much of a social or mobile presence and core games are becoming an increasingly crowded market with developers trying to follow on the success of companies like Kixeye and Kabam. That said, Godsrule at least feels different from the typical mid-core titles we tend to see, but it’s too early to tell if its different gameplay and cartoony graphics will be enough to help the game thrive.

Turbine announces Shadowfell Conspiracy expansion for DDO:
Filed under: Fantasy, Dungeons and Dragons Online, Expansions, News items, Free-to-play
In a post wishing Dungeons & Dragons Online a happy anniversary, Senior Producer Erik Boyer did more than just reminisce on how far the game has come in the last seven years. He touched on a new enhancement system and incoming changes to astral diamond shards before slipping in the announcement of DDO's second expansion, which will launch this summer.
Named Shadowfall Conspiracy, the expansion turns attention back toward the Forgotten Realms and will feature new regions, new quests, and an increased level cap (28). Players will also have faster access to the Forgotten Realms thanks to a new prestige character feature called Iconic Heroes that gets you into the action starting at level 15. More information on this feature will be available in the coming months.
Boyer concludes his remarks with a hint about the true reincarnation system that will be focused on later in the year and a promise that "this year is going to be another great year for DDO -- with a big, cool new storyline, new D&D monster varieties, and powerful new character abilities."

Dubbed Shadow War, the open world competitive multiplayer combat system is the star of the show in the latest gameplay video from Trion.
The PvP-focused Shadow War is fully integrated into the game's co-op experience, "giving players a choice to participate on their own terms, and allowing progression between co-op and competitive gameplay to be the same." Revitalized Steampunk Saga Edge of Twilight Starts on iOS:
I've been following the development of Fuzzyeyes Planescape-esque steampunk adventure Edge of Twilight since 2007's first teasing glimpse of a world that seemed torn from the pages of one Dungeons & Dragons' most underrated settings. In 2009 there were rumors that the entire project had been scrapped, and development slipped into limbo. Diablo III on PS3 and PS4 has offline play
Diablo III on PS3 and PS4 has offline play:
Blizzard reveals Internet connection will not be required for upcoming console versions; no cross-platform play planned.

Diablo III for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 will not require an Internet connection, Blizzard production director John Hight has revealed.
Speaking on GameTrailers, Hight said, "You can have four people on the same screen--no split-screen, we just zoom the camera out. Or if you're offline..."
Diablo III for the PC and Mac mandates that players be connected to Blizzard's Battle.net service, even when playing single-player.
The game was announced for the PS3 and PS4 during Sony's major media event last week and will be on show at PAX East 2013 late next month. Diablo III for consoles features a new interface and control scheme, allowing players to directly control their character.
"You no longer have to click and have your character move to a position," Hight said. "It's surprising how much action that brings to it. Blizzard really created action RPGs by launching Diablo originally, and this brings the action back into it."
Separately, a Blizzard representative confirmed in the Diablo III forums that cross-platform play between PlayStation Network and Battle.net is not currently in the works.
"While we think cross-platform play would be awesome, there are currently no plans to allow connectivity between PlayStation Network and Battle.net (this is pretty standard for most games that have PC and console support)," the company said. "As a result, the characters on your Battle.net account and PlayStation account will also remain separate."
The developer also confirmed that it has no plans to allow analog controller support for the PC version of Diablo III. And similarly, Diablo III for the PS3 and PS4 will not support USB mice or keyboards, Blizzard explained.
Diablo III for the PC and Mac has sold more than 12 million copies. For more, check out GameSpot's review.
