Hailan Rising, a level-less, free-to-play, PvP-oriented MMO from Reloaded Productions, is entering open beta on February 21st at 1:00 p.m. EST. To celebrate the beta launch, the development team is challenging players to crash the game's servers. This "Wreck It Week" challenge will reward the first three players (as reported by the devs' monitoring tools) to crash the server with in-game currency, items, and other goodies.
The third place prize will be 10,000 G1C, the in-game currency. Second prize will net one lucky player 20,000 G1C, which is valued at about $240 USD. The grand prize winner will receive 40,000 G1C, an epic in-game item, an original weapon named for their game-crashing character, and a QA acknowledgement in the game's credits. Winners will need to have a GamersFirst account in order to receive their winnings. In addition, all closed beta participants will receive 200 G1C.

New iOS Games Tonight: Die Hard, Sela the Space Pirate and more! (iPad)
New iOS Games Tonight: Die Hard, Sela the Space Pirate and more! (iPad):
Another Wednesday, another truckload of new iOS games. It happens like clockwork, as though the App Store is a sentient being that understands and sympathizes with the shared human disdain for the middle of the work week. Or at least that’s how I look at it. I like making everything creepier than it needs to be. | |

Allods Online is drawing ever-nearer to a new expansion, Lords of Destiny. We've already been shown some of the new zones for the expansion; now it's time to take a look at some of the new spells. Characters who have reached at least level 52 will be able to unlock two powerful skills, which will be useful both in monster battles and in facing off against enemy players.
Each class will have two new skills available. These skills require the consumption of dragon tears, which will be available for purchase from Servants of the Light or as rewards from daily tasks. Dragon tears come in different quality levels, which will affect the effectiveness of the skills they're used to power.

Dawn of the Dragons available on iOS
Dawn of the Dragons available on iOS:

Game developer 5th Planet Games today announced the launch of Dawn of the Dragons on the iTunes App Store. Previously released on Facebook, Kongregate, Armor Games and its own site, Dawn of the Dragons’ is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game and 5th Planet’s top-performing title.
The game features a deep single-player storyline, as well as optional multiplayer gameplay that includes player alliances with raids and player-versus-player action. The single player campaign contains zones filled with energy-based missions and boss battles, while raids and PvP elements are played by spending stamina and honor. Dawn of the Dragons is free to play and available for iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch devices here.
We talked about the project with CEO Robert Winkler, COO Braden Moulton and Brian David-Marshall at GDC Online back in October 2012. Shortly after that chat, 5th Planet hired Rob Carroll as its Chief Mobile Officer, who began overseeing the development of both Legacy of a Thousand Suns and Dawn of the Dragons on iOS.
You can read our preview of the game here and look forward to a review soon.

Skylancer: Battle for Horizon is a pretty unique take on the hugely overpopulated MMORTS genre. I play a lot of the popular strategy titles, and I'd estimate that 85% of them are simple repeats of previous titles. To be fair, I must admit that gaming in general is much like other forms of entertainment like movies or music and is mostly full of stuff that we've seen before. It can be a bit disheartening to write about something you love like gaming, only to struggle to find games that are truly unique and give you that same feeling you had when you first played games.
Now, I'm not setting up Skylancer: Battle for Horizon as some sort of paragon of originality. The fact is that there are plenty of mechanics and systems in the game that are familiar to me, but there are also enough twists in the design to remind me that it is still possible to feel unique, even in this overcrowded genre.

Apple Does Lose Right to iPhone Trademark in Brazil
Apple Does Lose Right to iPhone Trademark in Brazil:
As suspected Apple has just lost its trademark battle in Brazil for the use of the word "iPhone." Local firm Gradiente had applied for the mark back in 2000, long before the iPhone went on sale, but only released its own Android-powered phone bearing the very same name in late 2012.
Apple has been fighting for the trademark for several years, and is reportedly planning an appeal. At launch there was a controversy over the name which Cisco was using for a device of a different kind: A cordless phone.

Twitch support coming to Firefall:
Video company partners with Red 5 Studios to bring real-time streaming to free-to-play PC MMO shooter.

Twitch today announced a partnership with Red 5 Studios that will bring real-time streaming support to free-to-play massively multiplayer online PC shooter Firefall. According to Twitch, Firefall will be the first game to feature integrated Twitch chat functionality.
Twitch vice president of marketing Matthew DiPietro said in a statement that it won't be long before video streaming services like Twitch become commonplace. "Video broadcasting will soon be a standard, expected piece of the gaming experience with innovative companies like Red 5 making it possible by pioneering the way it's built into games."
Firefall is a team-based, science-fiction MMO shooter set in a future Earth setting. The game was created by World of Warcraft and Tribes developers and is currently in beta. No firm release date has yet been announced.
Red 5 Studios is the latest publisher to partner with Twitch, following Sony Online Entertainment (PlanetSide 2), Electronic Arts (Origin), and Activision (Call of Duty: Black Ops II).
Earlier this month, Twitch announced a $9/month premium subscription membership called Twitch Turbo. Subscribers get ad-free broadcasts, an exclusive Turbo badge, a custom emoticon set, expanded chat colors, and priority customer support.

Welcome to Neverwinter Days, a fresh new column that will be pulling on our +1 boots of game exploring while we go tramping through dungeons and fantastic locales. I'm fairly excited about this game and wanted to explore it from top to bottom while bringing you along for company.
Neverwinter is a Cryptic title, and with that comes a laundry list of expectations: Players will be pretty divided on it, it'll skew toward "fun" and "buggy," there'll be a lot of visual customization, and "F" always, always interacts with the world. And it's a Dungeons & Dragons title, so there are even more genre expectations. For example, we're going to be laying the smackdown on Kobolds early and often. Poor buggers.
Usually we begin a column by showcasing the community resources out there, but we're going to put that off until next time in favor of discussing this past weekend's beta event. Yours truly and several other Massively staffers were on the scene to chow through Neverwinter and see how it's shaping up in these final months prior to release. So what did I get out of it? It's going to cost you one click to find out!
