A Promising New Game Console Called Ouya Has An Unexpected Enemy
A Promising New Game Console Called Ouya Has An Unexpected Enemy:
The makers of the Ouya game console want to disrupt the game console sector with a $99 price point--hundreds less than conventional new machines--and a freemium business model. Not only that, but a completely open development platform, too. If successful, it could bring sweeping changes to a stagnating sector. However they are not the only outsider with designs on console gaming, as Apple has been taking a measured approach to entering the competition.

Rift Editorial: Hitting Its Stride in F2P:
It seems an eon ago that Rift first came out. Of course, we are speaking about Internet Land and the fact that the passage of a week seems an eternity as well. Still, it’s hard to believe that Trion Worlds’ inaugural title is already two years old and counting. Many of us who are rabid MMO players watched eagerly as Rift came down the path to release and pre-ordered our copy of the game and ponied up for the monthly subscription.

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn Column: Five Good Things:
We have had a couple of weekends of Beta 3 activity and we are free to talk about and share images from the tests. Beta3 has us returning to Limsa Lominsa and Ul'Dah as well as the Gridania from earlier stages. We are, therefore, seeing much of the launch content, at least through the mid-30 levels of a 50 level game.

Android, Led By Samsung, Continues To Storm The Smartphone Market, Pushing A Global 70% Market Share:
Google is grappling with an ongoing antitrust case in Europe over its online search business, and if its rivals have anything to do with it, that might extend into Google’s power in the mobile sphere, too. Figures out today from Kantar Worldpanel may not help Google’s case very much. The analysts say that in the last three months, Google-powered smartphones, running Android, accounted for more than 70% of sales in the region’s five biggest markets of Great Britain, Germany, France, Italy and Spain — part of a wider, global trend of Android continuing to consolidate its leadership position in smartphones. And the secondary story here is that much of this success is being led by Samsung, which now accounts for nearly half of all smartphones sold in the region.
